About Me

Mia Bird
Qualified Counsellor

I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychosynthesis Counselling.  I chose the Psychosynthesis model of training because I share its view that every difficulty we face or crises we experience is an opportunity for positive change and growth.

If we do not know how to take care of ourselves and to love ourselves, we cannot take care of the people we love. Loving oneself is the foundation for loving another person.

My Background

I am in my late forties and have experienced my fair share of life, love and loss. I have a science background and have worked in both the academic, public and private sector on environmental issues such as climate change and sustainability.

I retrained as a Counsellor later in life, after having a family, because I find the work stimulating, meaningful and rewarding. Our minds are fascinating and I have a geeky interest in neuroscience and our ever growing understanding of how we can ‘re-wire’ our brains through therapy for a greater sense of self and ability to form healthy relationships.

Being a therapist stimulates both the scientist’s thirst for knowledge and satisfies my soul’s need for human contact and relationship. I currently volunteer as a therapist for Macmillan Cancer Trust, and previously volunteered with St Catherine’s Hospice and a low cost clinic in London Bridge.
